Jozef's Millitary record .

Discover Jozef’s family history filled with bravery and creativity through a collection of photos from his military book, showcased below.

The 1st image on the left is Jozef’s old military book, issued to every young man during the compulsory national service period from 1950 to 1993 in communist-era Czechoslovakia. The book includes records of Jozef’s service.

The 2nd image is the record of arrival for military service.
On February 27, 1964, a military appearance was recorded in the City of Kosice. Jozef Demcak was given the function of the troop commander and was required to serve for 24 months.

The 3rd picture shows a military service record created on August 10, 1966, at Military Complex #3003, located in the city of Hradec Kralove.

Here is the 4th image in the series, which portrays Jozef’s grandfather fulfilling his military duty during WWI. The photograph was taken between 1914-1916, giving us a glimpse into the historical events that shaped the world we live in today.

Jozef’s grandfather on his mom’s side, Andrej Milovcik, survived the First World War and was a true survivor. However, in WWII, two of his three sons, Feri and Pista, passed away as heroes. Andrej, who mostly travelled on foot, made a long and challenging journey.

The 5th photo showcases Jozef’s father, Michal, demonstrating his adeptness in creating distinctive wedding cakes. It is evident that Jozef has inherited his parents’ artistic aptitude. His mother’s acting prowess was exceptional, and she performed in the local theatre called “Ochotnicke Divadlo” from an early age until her early adulthood. Meanwhile, Michal fashioned visually stunning and delicious wedding cakes exclusively for special family occasions, particularly for his daughters.

Jozef’s grandfather on his dad’s side, Juraj (Duri) Demcák, was a young hero. He saved the family cow’s life by chasing her off the railroad tracks as a train was approaching. Sadly, he lost his own life while doing so. Many years later, Jozef and his cousin Cyril grazed the offspring of that cow on the same fields as young boys.

The last image is of Jozef’s university book, which was used to log the attendance and marks of every student. As Jozef was studying to be a physical education teacher at the University PJ Safarika, he was granted the status of Commander of Troops in Compulsory Duty in the Czechoslovak Army.

Jozef Demcak’s 1998-99 visit to Slovakia was meant to be a trip down memory lane but unfortunately turned into a nightmare.

He was blackmailed and imprisoned by the corrupted Slovak police during the so-called Meciarismus, which is considered to be the most corrupt era in Slovakia after communist rule.
